New rims for the old ride

When it rains it pours. I know that it is so cliché to say so, but it was true for us today.

It all started with couple tire we replaced about a month ago. The tires have been leaking air slowly ever since then. I had been putting air in them on a regular basis, say every 6-7 days or so and then they would be down to about 15 pounds. Tuesday morning I was leaving for school and one tire was just about all the way flat! I didn't notice this until I drove about 1/4 mile on them! Well I knew this tire was forever ruined. But no worries, we have a replacement plan for the tires. I filled up the tire with air at a gas station right there where I stopped and checked the thump-thump noise. It held air, so I was extremely happy. This was a really good thing because I was running late for school.

I went to the tire store this evening. Had to pay $56 for the new balance plan and warranty for both of the two new tires. Oh well, right? I mean, I did get $200 worth of tires replaced for one quarter of the cost. The tire salesman said he wasn't so sure about the condition of my rims. I told him that we should wait and see once they were off,and he proceeded with the work. My worst fear was confirmed when I saw how bad the rims were. They were pretty well banged up and one was lopsided! The rims had been ground down so far the new tires couldn't seal up against the rim side. While the tires were off my ride I looked at the brakes. Can you say "groovy"? They are in really bad shape. More bad news.

So all and all I had to buy some rims, not bad considering I have 177k miles on my 1998 Chevy Cavalier. I ended up getting 4 MOMO winter rims. Look sharp and got them for about $410. Not bad considering that 1 stock OEM rim from Chevy is $350. I am glad the problem is fixed. I am just a little shell shocked from the money out. Now I have to do the brakes on it. Hopefully this weekend I will be able to work on that. I can feel the heavy rain coming down now...
